Day 1: Wangaratta to Beechworth - Cycling Distance 43km

Today we'll join the famous Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail and ride to Beechworth. Along the way we’ll pass through serene natural bush and striking tall gums with abundant birdlife cheering us as we pass.

This afternoon you'll be free to explore the many interesting aspects of Beechworth from historical buildings and gardens to the local brewery and famous Pennyweight Winery.

Day 2: Beechworth to Yackandandah and return - Cycling Distance 47km

The Beechworth to Yackandandah rail trail is the newest section of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. The trail takes us through a mixture of bush and farmland and undulates up and down as it descends towards Yackandandah. The town dates back to the gold rush days of the mid 1800's and today is home to many acclaimed artists and crafts people. We'll spend some time here to explore the eclectic mix of galleries, shops and studios and grab a bite to eat in one of the many eating establishments in the main street. We'll return to Beechworth via the rail trail with time to relax or explore in the afternoon.

Accommodation

Day 3: Beechworth to Bright - Cycling Distance 69km

Today’s Beechworth to Bright cycling route takes us through a mix of settled land and impressive areas of natural beauty with striking views. We begin with a short climb to Stanley through magnificent countryside before the long scenic downhill run through Mount Stanley Scenic Reserve. We then journey alongside picturesque Barwidgee Creek all the way into Myrtleford.

After lunch and within view of several alpine peaks, we’ll cycle up the scenic Ovens Valley, close to the Ovens River, on the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail. We’ll stop at the Australian Pumpkin Seed Company, visit delightful Eurobin and Porepunkah, and then make our way into Bright, one of Victoria’s most charming and bike-friendly villages.

Accommodation

Day 4: Bright to Milawa - Cycling Distance 73km

This morning we return to the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail to enjoy the mostly downhill run into Myrtleford where we'll stop for lunch. Continuing on the rail trail we will pass through Gapsted before turning onto peaceful country back roads at Everton, which will take us to the Milawa Gourmet Region.

Accommodation

Day 5: Milawa to Wangaratta - Cycling Distance 30km

After breakfast we'll join the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail for our final leg back to Wangaratta. We'll celebrate with an end of tour lunch before saying our farewells.
