Protecting Against Respiratory Infections
Updated: 8 May, 2025
As a business we have a legal obligation under Work Health and Safety laws to protect everyone who interacts with us—staff, guests, visitors, and suppliers—from avoidable harm. These laws require us to do all that is reasonably practicable to safeguard every aspect of your health and safety, including minimising the risk of respiratory infections such as Influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), whooping cough, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and similar respiratory diseases. Changes to public health laws do not remove or reduce this duty.
We are committed to ensuring that every guest feels safe and included on our tours. Most importantly, our commitment to inclusion recognises that people who are vulnerable to respiratory infections should be able to join a tour without being expected to disclose to the tour group their individual circumstances.
With the above at the front of our minds, we have embraced a respiratory infection prevention strategy that prioritises fresh air.
We are doing this by eating at venues that offer the option for outdoor dining and, where possible, booking accommodation with independently ventilated rooms and external entries, so we are not required to share ventilation, corridors or lifts with others.
We are also prioritising fresh air in our vehicles by maximising the exchange of air and monitoring the air quality using a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) monitor, (find out what CO2 levels tell us about air quality here). To assist with preventing the transmission of respiratory infections all our staff will use N95 or P2 respirators in our vehicles when carrying passengers and when visiting crowded indoor spaces. We encourage all our guests to do the same and P2 respirators are available from Mulga upon request. (Read more about how we are protecting against respiratory infections in our support vehicles here.)
Before joining the tour group, we ask all participants to take a combination Rapid Antigen Test for RSV, SARS-CoV-2 & Influenza A/B and complete a health declaration. We will provide you the link to this in the Tour Information Pack we send you in the month before your tour.
If someone tests positive to SARS-CoV-2 while on tour we will be using these procedures to categorise and manage the exposure risk for the remaining members of the tour group.
By booking a tour with us, you agree to follow our recommended infection-prevention behaviours and to comply with our control measures or other requirements that we may notify you of, even if they are more rigorous than current government regulations and guidelines.
If you have any questions about any of the information listed on this page or wish to discuss your individual needs please feel free to call us or send us an email.
- You must not join the tour if you have tested positive or if you have ANY symptoms potentially consistent with SARS-CoV-2. To cancel or transfer a tour booking under these circumstances please Call Us by telephone and then confirm the conversation by email.
- Prior to and during each tour we monitor the different types of respiratory infections being reported by the different State health authorities. If our on-going risk assessments determine the risk of respiratory infection is increasing we reserve the right to ask guests to adopt additional control measures and complete health declarations throughout the tour.
